Pass two · treatment
Lawn fertilization and weed control in Yakima
Six fertilizer treatments a year, five rounds of broadleaf weed control, crabgrass control and a weed-free guarantee, applied by licensed applicators.
Chapter 01
Pale turf, broadleaf weeds and crabgrass: what the program is up against
A lawn that is running short shows it in three ways. The color fades toward pale, broadleaf weeds push up through the thin spots, and crabgrass moves into any bare ground it can find. None of the three is a mowing problem, and none of them goes away because the grass got cut again.
Pale turf is usually a hungry lawn. Six treatments spread across the year keep feeding the grass, so the color comes back and stays. Dense, healthy turf also crowds out weeds on its own, which is why feeding the lawn and fighting the weeds are one job, not two.
Crabgrass is stopped before it starts. The pre-emergent has to be down before temperatures hold at 55 degrees Fahrenheit, because once a seed has sprouted, the window to prevent it has already closed.

The program, treatment by treatment
The program is 6 vitamin-enriched fertilizer treatments and 5 broadleaf weed control treatments, plus crabgrass control, unlimited service calls and a 100% weed-free guarantee. If your program includes the guarantee, follow-up applications are part of the package and cost nothing extra.
Weeds get hit from more than one side. Selective herbicide goes after the weed and leaves the turf alone. Manual removal handles the plant that needs pulling. Pre-emergent treatments stop seed from taking root, and post-emergent treatments deal with what already came up.
On application day, the product label is the law. We postpone for heavy rain, for wind of 10 mph or more, and for temperatures of 90 degrees Fahrenheit or higher, because what's fine for one product on one day isn't fine for the next. Licensed applicators answer personally for every application made under their license, so we never apply products a customer supplies, under any circumstances.
Chapter 03
After a treatment: the first 14 days
In good conditions you'll see results after about 14 days, and some lawns show it in as little as 7.
Keep everyone off the lawn for 3 hours after an application, and longer if the product is still wet. We never spray with pets or children in the area. Mow at least 24 hours before a treatment, since mowing right before is a stress and an herbicide on top of it compounds the stress. Mowing 24 hours after is okay for every application, and waiting 48 hours is recommended for the best herbicide results.
Some weeds shoot up taller than the turf in the days after. That's called bolting, and it's a reaction to the treatment: a weed that senses it's dying spends its stored energy on seed. It's a sign the plant is stressed and finished. Mow or trim it shorter. Skipping or cancelling a treatment puts the program at risk and voids the weed-free guarantee, so keep the visits on the calendar.
